President Joe Biden won’t rescind his flag directive honoring the late President Jimmy Carter despite criticism raised by President-elect Donald Trump on Friday. Biden quickly ordered flags on federal properties to be lowered to half-staff for 30 days after Carter died on Dec.

Carter, the 39th U.S. president, died on Sunday at 100 years old. President Joe Biden ordered that the flags of the United States be flown at half-staff at the White House and public buildings and grounds for a period of 30 days following Carter’s death in honor of him.

“Because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast,” Trump wrote Friday on Truth Social. “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
