Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson accepted many valuable gifts “on behalf of the city” but failed to report them, according to a new report from the city’s inspector general. According to an advisory from Inspector General Deborah Witzburg,

The Inspector General's office was denied access to the mayor's gift room with designer bags, cufflinks and shoes. The report calls for the mayor to end a practice where gifts accepted on behalf of the city are only logged at City Hall.

While attempting an undercover inspection of the mayor's gift room, investigators were denied access to a log of gifts that is supposed to be publicly available.

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office improperly blocked public access to a City Hall room where they said they store Gucci bags, designer cufflinks and other gifts, according to an investigation by the city’s Office of the Inspector General.
