The mayor's top attorneys have insisted on sitting in on investigative interviews that might embarrass city leaders, according to Inspector General Deborah Witzburg.

Chicago's Inspector General Debora Witzburg accused the Johnson and Lightfoot administrations of interfering with IG investigations. The allegations were disclosed in a memo to the Chicago City Council, which did not mention the mayors by name. Witzburg highlighted practices that hindered the effectiveness and independence of investigations.

The investigative roadblocks outlined by Inspector General Deborah Witzburg include demands by the Law Department to sit in on sensitive interviews that might embarrass the mayor and delaying the release of sensitive documents.

Danielle Sassoon quit rather than follow an order to drop a corruption case against Eric Adams, saying it set " dangerous precedent".

Sassoon said federal prosecutors planned to charge Adams with destroying evidence and instructing others to do so, which would have added to his case.
