Cal Quantrill saw an opportunity and took it. That’s essentially what went into the right-handed pitcher’s decision to sign a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Miami Marlins on Wednesday as the team began spring training at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex in Jupiter.

Within 24 hours of Nick Pivetta (Victoria, BC) inking a deal with San Diego, another Canadian right-handed pitcher joined a team for the upcoming season.

The Miami Marlins and right-hander Cal Quantrill agreed to terms on a one-year contract on Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed. Quantrill, who turned 30 on Monday, was a 15-game winner for Cleveland in 2022 before his fortunes changed over the last two seasons.
