If a Wordle user guesses a letter that's in the right place, that tile will then turn green. If the letter does appear at some point in the word, but not in the place the user has guessed, it will turn yellow. If the letter does not appear in the word at all then the tile will turn gray.

Created by Josh Wardle, a software engineer, Wordle was initially a personal project for his partner, but it was released publicly in October 2021. By January 2022, it had 300,000 daily users, with millions of people playing the brain teaser every day. Wardle eventually sold the game to The New York Times f or an undisclosed seven-figure sum.
