New York Jets owner Woody Johnson stopped to answer one question outside the locker room after the Jets finished 5-12.

To be clear, the Jets made all the wrong kinds of history in 2024. They extended their record-breaking active playoff drought to 14 years and finished third in the AFC East with a dismal 5–12 record, clinching their ninth consecutive losing season.

After another disappointing season for the Jets came to a close on a cold night at MetLife Stadium, running back Breece Hall stood in front of reporters to reflect on the 5-12 finish. “It’s hard for a team to win when your coach and GMs are getting fired halfway through the season,” he said. “It’s just a lot of stuff up in the air.”

This is the legacy of Woody Johnson’s disgraceful tenure as the owner of the Jets. Somehow, he’s managed to make the NFL’s most beaten-up fans feel like they’ve gone 15 rounds with Apollo Creed a day after going 15 rounds with Clubber Lang. Johnson’s defenders will die on the hill of: what about 2009 and 2010? What about 2001-02, 2004, 2006?

The Jets (5-12) beat the Miami Dolphins (8-9) in a 32-20 final. In a game with little meaning, there was a lot on the field that... many in New York had hoped to see a lot earlier. The Jets were in control for most of the afternoon despite the Dolphins needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
