As soon as the sun glints over miles of border fence dividing the United States and Mexico, the engines of cargo trucks packed with auto and computer parts roar to life along border bridges and bleary-eyed workers file into factories to assemble a multitude of products geared toward the U.

CIUDAD JUÁREZ, Mexico — A line of Mexican National Guard and Army trucks rumbled along the border separating Ciudad Juárez and El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday, among the first of 10,000 troops Mexico has sent to its northern frontier following tariff threats by President Donald Trump.

National Guard troops near Ciudad Juárez removed ladders and ropes from border trenches, with patrols also spotted in other areas near Tijuana.

Masked and armed National Guard members were seen scouring the brush along the border, retrieving makeshift ladders and ropes concealed in the trenches before loading them onto trucks. Patrols were also conducted in other parts of the border near Tijuana.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that Mexico's National Guard is en route to its border with the United States.

MEXICO CITY – Mexico on Tuesday began moving troops to its northern border as part of a 10,000-member deployment that President Claudia Sheinbaum promised
