The Treasury Department’s Office of Inspector General says it's launching an audit of the security controls for the federal government’s payment system.

The Alliance for Retired Americans, along with two employee unions, sued the Treasury Department on Feb. 3 to halt Musk and the DOGE team from accessing Treasury’s payment systems, which the lawsuit said consist of “sensitive personal and financial information” about anyone who has made a financial transaction with the government.

Musk has consolidated control over large swaths of the government with President Trump‘s blessing since assuming leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency.
