The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold warning for Carbon and Monroe counties, effective until noon Wednesday.

This new type of weather warning was activated because of the dangerously cold temperatures and wind-chill readings in northeastern Pennsylvania.

While there is definitely plenty of intrigue and even fun that comes with seeing the potential for snow like this in our area of the Deep South, there is also risk that comes with it and it is a risk that could come with major consequences if not taken seriously.

An extreme cold warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 2:39 p.m. in effect until Wednesday at noon for Carbon and Monroe counties.

Overnight temperatures in Houston are expected to be as low as 18 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, which means snow that melted Tuesday could become ice by Wednesday.

On Sunday at 2:47 a.m. an extreme cold warning was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Monday between midnight and 11 a.m. for Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Jefferson and St.

An extreme cold warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 3:36 a.m. valid from 7 p.m. until Wednesday 10 a.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie as well as Crawford County.

Extreme cold warning remains in effect Tuesday morning

On Tuesday at 2:19 a.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated extreme cold warning valid for Wednesday between midnight and 9 a.m. for Coffee, Dale, Henry, Geneva and Houston counties.
