Cypress Island is the westernmost part of Skagit County, Washington, and is about halfway between the mainland and offshore San Juan County. It is separated from Blakely Island to the west by Rosario Strait and from Guemes Island to the east by Bellingham Channel.

Cypress Island protects 5,230 acres of high quality forest, wetland and grassland communities and surrounding state-owned tidelands, and includes the only protected low-elevation serpentine forest in Washington. Cypress Island includes land in both NRCA and NAP (Natural Area Preserve) designations.

Hop into a kayak and paddle over to Cypress Island for a true Salish Sea experience away from the crowds. The island is the largest relatively undeveloped land mass in the San Juan archipelago. With an extensive network of hiking trails and two campgrounds, much of this island is accessible to visitors.

Hiking Eagle Cliff (Cypress Island) Cypress Island Natural Resources Conservation Area (NRCA) is the largest relatively undeveloped island in the San Juan Islands and is home to over 5,200 acres of protected forests, wetlands, grasslands and tidelands.

Cypress Island is the third-highest Island Highpoint in Washington, behind only Mount Constitution (Orcas Island) and Lummi Peak (Lummi Island). Unlike several other notable islands in the San Juans region, no ferries go to Cypress Island. Visitors must arrive via boat, kayak, or canoe.

Jul 12, 2020 · Cypress Island is located roughly eight miles from Anacortes. Eagle Harbor did not have a dock or fresh water available for boaters. However, it was a beautiful spot, with a view of Mt. Baker. It has a rocky beach to land your dinghy on and hiking trails through dense woods either along the shoreline or up the hill to several small island lakes.

Cypress Island technically isn't a San Juan Island because it is located within Skagit County, however, this topographically diverse island is often lumped into the San Juan Island archipeligo. The majority of the island is owned and Managed as public land by the Washington Department of Natural Resources.

Located on the largest undeveloped island in the San Juan Archipelago, this preserve comprises 1,072 acres on Cypress Island and includes rare freshwater wetlands and native fescue grasslands on rocky balds.
