State of Our Union. The Atlantic came to Lincoln on Oct. 23 to host “State of Our Union: Nebraska.” The daylong event, hosted in partnership with the Flatwater Free Press, featured a series of discussions with local leaders, policy makers and journalists on topics of regional and national importance.

Mission. Flatwater. Free Press. Flatwater echoes the origins of our state’s name, a translation of the Oto or Omaha words for the Platte River. The Platte of course spans the state, providing sustenance and a travel route for this land’s first human inhabitants.
